How do I even begin to review someone like Martha? She’s not just a dressmaker—she’s a magician with fabric and one of the kindest, most thoughtful people you could hope to work with.

I came to her feeling incredibly anxious. I have health and sensory challenges, I’m autistic and can’t visualise things at all, and I’d previously been made to feel like a burden for wanting something different. I had a vision—a teal gown with a flowing skirt, corseted bodice, and floral embroidery—but needed a lot of support and never once made to feel like a problem.

Martha immediately put me at ease, in spite of being a complete stranger. She was endlessly patient—sketching, photographing, modelling, and talking through options so I could understand and make decisions. Every step of the process was tailored not just to how the dress would look, but how it would feel. The level of care and problem-solving she brought was extraordinary. She guided me away from fabrics that would irritate my skin, helped manage overwhelm when choosing materials, and checked in constantly to make adjustments. She designed a modern hoop skirt to give me volume without overheating or discomfort, and created a fully lined corseted bodice that was both structured and genuinely comfortable.

When we couldn’t find the perfect embroidery, she hand-dyed and painted it herself—then individually adjusted elements to suit my needs, even replacing details that triggered discomfort. She hand-applied it so it flowed like natural vines across the dress. It’s not just a dress—it’s a piece of art.

She also engineered incredible practical solutions: hidden flexibility in the corset for body changes, allergy-safe fastenings I hadn’t even thought to mention, and thoughtful design choices that made the dress wearable all day. She anticipated things I hadn’t considered, helped me test options in fittings, and pivoted instantly when I changed my mind—creating detachable elements and refining details until everything felt exactly right.

And yes—she added completely hidden pockets, which were both magical and genuinely useful on the day.

What meant the most, though, were the small, deeply personal touches—details no one else would notice, but that made me feel completely seen and comfortable in a way I’ve never experienced with clothing before.

Six weeks before the wedding, I had unexpected surgery. Martha handled this with complete calm and flexibility, adjusting timelines, fittings, and the dress itself to support my recovery. That level of care made an incredibly stressful situation feel manageable.

And as if that weren’t enough, she also made my husband’s wedding shirt. She approached his needs with the same level of thought and respect, creating a custom design that balanced historical style with modern comfort. From beautifully soft, breathable fabric (custom dyed to match his kilt) to tailored adjustments that allowed movement without restriction, every detail was considered. He’s said it’s the only dress shirt that’s ever truly fit—and felt comfortable.

What Martha creates isn’t just clothing—it’s comfort, confidence, and something completely personal. We both felt supported, understood, and cared for throughout the entire process. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Martha made a normally very uncomfortable situation for me actually enjoyable! She is just so lovely, kind, understanding and funny, most of all she is so knowledgeable and insanely talented at what she does and her passion shines through every stitch!
